Students Draw on Fabric with Washable and Non-Washable Markers...

Teaching kids to be skeptical is all part of our job as science teachers.
Turns out the washable markers are really washable.

Fifth Grade Joins BOP (Billion Oyster Project)

Fifth grade is the new BOP grade--taking over the monitoring of  two Valentino Pier Oyster Restoration Stations.

About 50 living oysters in one station.

Tapping on shell to determine if the oyster still alive.
Oysters aren't the only things living in the stations.

Is it a mud fish?

Musa following in Barent's footsteps...literally...trawling for microplastics.

Helping kids learn about a problem for all of us up and down the food chain.

Then collecting trash to keep it from becoming micro-plastic.

Kamili, CAS intern, co-teaching the chemistry of water.

Is there enough oxygen for the oysters?  All you need are 5 parts of oxygen to 1,000,000 parts of water.

A long walk on a long pier to get to the next task.

What's the pH?

Looking neutral!

Turbidity Tube:  It's becoming clearer and clearer.

A View From the Pier

What do you notice about the land and the water?

See you in the spring.

Thank you Justin Weiner for these amazing photos.
