Meanwhile back in the classrooms: First Graders Explore Fruits

Bringing in fruits seen on BNS Farm  to draw like a scientist...

To paint like a scientist? or an artist? or both?

To eat fruit and harvest seeds ...

To plant harvested seeds...

To make bean seed humus...

Recipe

1 (24-ounce) can cannellini beans
1 lemon, juiced
2  roasted garlic  cloves
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
Serves 8
• Rinse  and smash beans until smooth.  Add lemon juice, garlic, salt and pepper to taste. Slowly add olive oil and blend until smooth and thick
•  To roast garlic... cut ends ( don’t  peel) and coat with olive oil. Place in oven at 400* for 20 min.

To wonder...

Will these seeds grow?
Does this taste sweet?

Fall Farm Images

First Graders go on a hunt in the farm...to find something green, something yellow...

Something good to eat...

Something pointy...
Entering the spiky room formed by a trellised cucumber vine

But first graders are not the only ones excited by the farm...

Some images at drop off time...

And a few images from recess...

Monarchs are a big draw

Waiting for Milkweed

Wild monarch larva ate through most of our milkweed supplies.

What to do with the 20 larva coming from Rose Franklin?  Rose was out of plants...

Should we cancel.

Touch and go until we found a source of butterfly weed...a native perennial. On Labor Day!

Here they are being rushed back to BNS.
